Cool AI Updates by Google

As mentioned in our blog post about our 5 favorite AI tools, we are big fans of AI and follow developments in this industry with passion and great interest!

Just recently, in a social media post, we explained the updates from Bing, Microsoft’s AI chatbot, as the new features have caused quite a stir. Now, Google is following suit and has introduced a variety of innovations at the Google I/O developer conference that we don’t want to keep from you.

New Google Search Experience – soon, more AI-powered Googling

‍It’s currently just an experiment in the USA, but it will soon be available to all users: Google Search is undergoing a fundamental change. With the help of AI, search queries are expected to deliver even more value in the future. Are you looking for a specific product? Google Search will soon show you relevant images, posts, product reviews, and tips. This will allow you to get more out of your search query. A chatbot that is available directly in the search results will answer additional questions on the topic and refine your research.

‍Gecko, Otter, Bison, Unicorn

‍These are the different sizes of PaLM 2, the new generation of Google’s AI language model. The four variants are of varying performance and are used for different products based on PaLM 2, depending on the application area. For example, for Med-PaLM 2, which is trained for medical questions, or for Bard (more on that later).

‍In general, PaLM 2 is smaller and therefore much more efficient and significantly better than its predecessor. It shows significant progress in mathematical tasks, logical reasoning, coding, and language understanding.

‍The wait is over – Bard is here!

‍Bard is Google’s answer to ChatGPT and Bing Chat and is now available in 180 countries worldwide. However, it’s only available in English, Korean, or Japanese for now. Another 40 languages are expected to be added soon, including German. Now that Bard can be accessed publicly, the goal is to gather as much user experience as possible to understand how users actually use chatbots and to develop the appropriate features and services accordingly.

What has already been announced is multimodal interaction, which means that images can be used as the starting point for a question or Bard can also provide images as results. What Bard can already do is export texts in Gmail and Google Docs, and soon it should be able to connect with other Google services, such as Maps and Sheets, as well as other companies’ services like Adobe, for example, Adobe Firefly.

‍Other Points of Interaction with AI

‍The Google Workspace suite includes programs like Docs, Sheets, Slides, and more. There are also some exciting AI developments here: “Help me write,” for example, assists in creating texts in Google Docs and Gmail. In Gmail, the feature can also be used to rewrite in a different style, as well as to shorten and expand the text. This will also be available for Docs in the future. Furthermore, features such as automatically creating tables in Google Sheets, editing images directly in Google Slides, and personalizing backgrounds for Google Meets are planned for the future. Unfortunately, these innovations are initially only available to users outside the USA.

‍Google Maps is becoming a new experience: There is now the possibility to pre-draw your route in a realistic 3D view, including weather forecasts. Currently, the “Immersive View for Routes” feature is applicable in 15 cities but is constantly expanding.

With the Magic Editor, Google Photos can now be edited even better using AI. The AI feature not only allows you to change the mood of the image but also to adjust the positions of individual objects or remove others.

‍There is also an AI update for Google Cloud: An assistant is supposed to assist Cloud customers in creating code, providing tips and suggestions for improvement. However, this feature is currently only available to a select group of testers, but you can apply for access.
